Tiny Tower v1.2 Update

An update to Tiny Tower has been released, but before you update, you may want to be aware of some of the changes.

First, the v1.2 update that’s currently available (at the time of this post) in the iTunes Store is full of bugs and there was an in-game message this morning urging not to upgrade until the next version.

With that said, I’m not sure I’m going to upgrade to the next “fixed” version. And here’s why:

Since there was a problem with the v1.2 update, the iTunes upgrade page doesn’t give any information on what changes were included in the update.

I took a look at Tiny Tower’s Facebook page and amidst the complaining I think I’ve figured out at least some of what the update contains.

Many of the complaints about the bugs in the update are about new shops. It appears new Bitizens have dream jobs only in Recycling, BBQ, Rock Climbing, and Floral Shop. It’s not clear if those shops are actually in the game yet.

In addition, from what I can tell, the v1.2 update included some pretty major changes, one being that placing a Bitizen in his or her dream job will now only award you a 1 Tower Bux bonus, as opposed to the 3 that we’re currently getting with v1.1. I suspect this change is because with v1.1 it’s very easy to multiply your Bux once you have a decent amount of shops.

For the past few days I’ve been working a little scheme to increase my Bux. Since I have 60 floors and 38 of them are stores, it’s fairly common that any new Bitizen who moves in has a dream job in a shop I already have. I use 1 Bux to rent an apartment to a new Bitizen, and no matter what their skill level is if I have a shop that is their dream job, I make an opening for them by temporarily giving an existing Bitizen no job at all, then place the new Bitizen in their dream job to collect 3 Bux, then evict the new lower-skill Bitizen immediately and replace them with the original Bitizen. Boom, 2 free Tower Bux. I’m still using the majority of my Bux to get 100,000 Coins. So boom, free Tower Coins!

Considering I’m doing this, not getting 3 Bux per dream job placement would slow my tower growth, unless I were to fork over more cash to buy Bux. (Just what the developers want, I get it.) I’m not sure the tradeoff in upgrading — the new feature of getting to rename my shops — is worth it right now. I’m going to wait and see what else the upgrade has before I make my decision when the fix is available.
